The Portfolio Delivery Lead is a critical leadership role responsible for the successful delivery of a portfolio of strategic initiatives and projects. This role leads and mentors a team of Delivery Managers, ensuring consistent application of delivery methodologies, fostering collaboration, and driving predictable and high-quality outcomes across the portfolio. The Portfolio Delivery Lead will work closely with Portfolio Management, Product Owners, and other stakeholders to align delivery execution with strategic objectives and ensure maximum value realization.
Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the delivery of all initiatives and projects within the assigned portfolio.
Ensure alignment of delivery activities with the overall portfolio strategy, goals, and priorities.
Monitor portfolio-level progress, risks, issues, and dependencies, and proactively identify and address potential roadblocks.
Drive consistency in delivery practices, tools, and reporting across the portfolio.
Lead, mentor, coach, and develop a team of Delivery Managers, fostering a high-performance and collaborative environment.
Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance reviews for direct reports.
Support Delivery Managers in effectively managing their respective projects and teams.
Facilitate knowledge sharing and best practice adoption within the delivery management team.
Ensure appropriate resource allocation and capacity planning across delivery teams within the portfolio.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including Portfolio Management, Product Owners, senior leadership, and business representatives.
Communicate portfolio delivery status, risks, and issues effectively and transparently to relevant stakeholders.
Facilitate escalation and resolution of cross-project dependencies and portfolio-level impediments.
Manage stakeholder expectations regarding delivery timelines, scope, and quality.
Champion and promote the adoption of Agile and other appropriate delivery methodologies across the portfolio.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance delivery processes, efficiency, and quality.
Identify and implement best practices in project and program management within the portfolio context.
Ensure adherence to organizational standards, policies, and governance frameworks.
Establish and oversee portfolio-level risk and issue management processes.
Facilitate the identification, assessment, and mitigation of significant portfolio risks.
Ensure timely and effective resolution of critical portfolio-level issues.
Provide guidance and support to Delivery Managers in managing risks and issues within their projects.
Identify and manage cross-project dependencies within the portfolio to ensure smooth flow and avoid delays.
Facilitate communication and collaboration between dependent project teams.
Develop and implement strategies for effective dependency resolution.
Define and track key portfolio delivery metrics and KPIs.
Provide regular and insightful reports on portfolio delivery performance to senior management.
Analyze delivery data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Contribute to portfolio-level reporting and forecasting.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
Extensive experience 1 (typically 10+ years) in project and program management, with a significant portion in leading and managing multiple concurrent projects or programs.
Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in managing and leading teams of Project or Delivery Managers.
Deep understanding of various software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid) and their application at scale.
Strong experience in portfolio management principles and practices.
